NHL star is removed from cover of popular video game

Patrick Kane, a star on this year’s Stanley Cup champion Chicago Backhawks, has been pulled from the cover of the “NHL 16” video game.

He was to be featured on the cover with teammate Jonathan Toews.

Toews, the Chicago captain, will now appear alone on the cover, hoisting the Stanley Cup.

EA Sports announced the decision Wednesday after police in Hamburg, N.Y, a town near Buffalo, said last week that Kane is the subject of an investigation about an incident that may have happened at Kane’s home on Aug. 2

A person familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press on Monday that it involves something that occurred between the player and a woman in her 20s.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because authorities have not revealed any details of the investigation.

Kane, who is from Buffalo, was selected first overall by Chicago in the 2007 draft. He has been a major reason the Blackhawks have won the Stanley Cup three times in the last six years.

Generally considered one of the NHL’s top players, he has also represented the United States at two Winter Olympics.

“NHL 16” is scheduled for release in North America on Sept. 15.

Kane was also on the cover of the game in 2009.
