Poker dealers, 10 of them, from Montreal’s casino were the winners over the weekend, when one of their 30 lottery tickets had the winning number. Now they’ve split the million dollar prize.
One croupier formed a group Friday evening, buying $50 worth of tickets at the casino’s boutique. Then they went back to work.
“it’s kind of like sharing a bottle of wine alone or sharing it with a bunch of friends”
Martin Lefebvre, one of the winners, told CBC about getting the news: “He tells me, ‘Martin, we won!’ We won what? ‘One of the Maxmillion.’ So I tell him, Hey JP, I’ve been working the poker table for six years. I see people bluffing 40 hours a week. So I tell him, don’t try this on me, that’s for sure. But he says, ‘I swear!’”
Carina Kingsbury, another of the winners, said that splitting the prize with her friends and colleagues is even better than winning it alone.
”You’re sharing with other people that you work with,” she said. “And it’s kind of like sharing a bottle of wine alone or sharing it with a bunch of friends. Even if you have less, you’re with good people and I think it makes it even more special.”
She said she will use her share to pay off the debt on her car first, then take a trip with her two daughters.
The big winner, however, has not yet come forward. The second-largest lotto win in Canadian history, a $60-million Lotto Max ticket was drawn last Friday, but the person has yet to claim his or her prize.
