Ding-a-ling cyclist: 18 criminal charges

Sometimes police get lucky, or criminals get perhaps less than smart.

This month police in Edmonton Alberta spotted a man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk which is not allowed.

They stopped him and found his bicycle also didn’t have a bell, a requirement.

In conversation he provided a false name, and so was arrested for obstruction of police.

During the arrest, a knife fell out of his pocket.  Then a search of his rucksack revealed a sawed-off shotgun, illegal drugs and other trafficking paraphernalia. The 25 year old who was on probation on other charges was also charged with breaching condtions. Altogether he now faces 18 charges.

He also was handed a ticket for riding without a bell on his bicycle.

In comments on the Edmonton police Facebook page, one wag responded that the arrest deserves a “no bell” prize.
