Singer Meat Loaf, who collapsed on stage Thursday night at Edmonton’s Jublilee Auditorium and was rushed to a local hospital, is said to be recovering well.
Video of the performance showed the 68-year-old singer bending over, then knocking over his microphone stand, falling to the floor and rolling onto his back.
Audience members say he had been singing his classic “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” at the time
“He fell….he just fell” said Jamie Carriere, who was in the audience. “You could hear the microphone just hit the ground.”
Today, his Facebook page said he had been suffering from severe dehydration and is now undergoing routine tests.
“His vital signs are stable and normal–he’s responsive and recovering well,” the post said
It was not the first time the burly singer, who first gained fame in 1977 with the smash album “Bat out of Hell” has collapsed on stage.
It happened in December 2003 in England and eight years later in Pittsburgh.
Meat Loaf, whose legal name is Michael Lee Aday, has said he suffers from asthma and from a medical condition that causes an irregular heartbeat
Earlier this week, he cancelled shows in Moose Jaw, Sask., and Calgary after touring eastern and central Canada since the beginning of May.
He is scheduled to perform Saturday in Cold Lake, Alberta, then in Lethbridge, Alberta next Tuesday before continuing his tour in British Columbia.
