Back in Ottawa, opposition MPs criticize, government MPs dismiss attacks

On the first day after a summer break it was clear Canadian Members of Parliament are preparing for next year’s election. The House of Commons was full of opposition questions and attacks, and government responses and self congratulations Monday (September 15).

Opposition questions focused on issues such as Canada’s military advisory force in Iraq, the Ebola crisis, but also longstanding questions about the opposition’s contention that the government is not dealing with the issue of hundreds of Indigenous women who have been murdered or disappeared, or opposition claims that the government is removing health care and other services from refugees.

The next scheduled federal election is in October, 2015.
