Chan’s return to skating competition takes a 3rd

Canadians love to watch figure skating competitions and there was extra excitement as Patrick Chan performed at the World Figure Skating Championships in Boston after an 18-month break from competition. Chan finished with 94.84 points in the short program on Wednesday, March 30 to take third place.

Won gold, won hearts

Chan won his third consecutive gold medal at the world championships in 2013 in London, Ontario and has set several world records. He also won the hearts of many Canadians, who were disappointed when he stopped competing after gold eluded him at the Sochi Olympics in 2014. Chan took silver.

In Boston on Wednesday, Chan skated to “Mack the Knife” recorded by another famous Canadian, Michael Buble. He landed a stunning quad toe-loop, but he fell on his triple Axel. His overall performance drew cheers from the audience, many among them waving Canadian flags.

‘I feel good’

“I feel good, I feel happy, not disappointed at all,” Chan told CBC after his short program. “With all the buzz here at worlds, it’s been two world championships I haven’t been here, I haven’t been used to this high energy and high expectation.”

Chan will compete in the men’s single free skate on Friday.
