Air Canada will have to accommodate passengers with severe allergies to dogs, ruled the Canadian Transportation Agency. The agency added this allergy to a list of disabilities that already included the allergy to cats.
A complaint had been filed by passenger Marley Greenglass who had a nasty reaction to a dog under the seat in front of her while she was on a flight from Toronto to Phoenix. After hearing the case the agency ruled that when a passenger with a such a disability identifies themselves the airline should either ban dogs from the flight, or keep them at least five rows away, depending on the aircraft’s filtration system.
Air Canada had previously made a decision to accommodate seeing eye dogs for visually impaired passengers.
The airline says if passengers with conflicting needs book a flight, the priority will go to whoever booked first.
