And for the first time some food products have been banned.  Prince Edward Island chef Michael Smith, told CBC News that the ban on processed and deep fried foods is welcomed by the athletes.

Smith is part of the team helping to prepare 10,000 meals a day for the young competitors in Sherbrooke.  The ban means no pop or sodas, no french fries, no fryers, no processed food, and no candy.  Instead the athletes are eating freshly prepared fruits, vegetables, meats and grains.

“For them to be in an atmosphere of health and nutrition and wellness is just such an easy decision for us to make,” said Smith.  “They are very susceptible to learning, and learning about how they can be their best and be at peak performance, and to be surrounded by junk food is just frankly unconscionable.”
