Going a long way, the Canadian way, for jobs

As often happens in Canada, huge energy projects, be they in the oil or hydro-electric sector, pay very well and tempt people to leave their regular jobs. For example, many people have left their homes in eastern Canada to go work in the booming oilsands projects of Alberta, thousands of kilometers away in western Canada.

There are now 15 vacancies in Labrador-Grenfell Health hospital’s nursing department. CEO Tony Wakeham insists health care has not been affected by the loss of nurses, but he says the sooner he can fill the vacancies the better. He acknowledges this will be a challenge.
