Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM) features 135 films from 40 countries

Founded in 1998, the Montreal International Documentary Festival (Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal – RIDM) is back with its 16th annual edition from November 13 to 24. This year the festival presents 135 films from more than 40 countries.

“At a time when a large part of the world’s documentary output is constrained by the demands of television, shaping films into easily digested products” the festival aims at presenting a wide spectrum of documentaries and filmmakers.

“The Square” filmmaker Jehane Noujaim’s documentary opens the festival on Wednesday. The film focuses on the momentous events unfolding in Cairo’s Tahrir Square from January 2011 to July 2013.

Closing the festival, a world première of a Canadian film from the predominantly French-speaking province of Quebec, a documentary on a farm women’s group, the Cercles de Fermières du Québec.
