Canadian premiers discuss pensions, job training, foreign investment

Premiers from Canada’s ten provinces and three territories wrapped up a semi-annual meeting of the Council of the Federation on Friday (November 15) after dealing with a number of common concerns.

One issue they discussed was the federal government’s job grant training program which the government has said it will go ahead with, whether or not the provinces and territories participate.

As well the premiers discussed the possible impact of improvements to Canada’s Pension Plan (CPP).

The premiers of two provinces, Alberta and Saskatchewan, were concerned about clarifying rules for foreign investment.

The Council of the Federation was set up in 2003 and “enables Premiers to work collaboratively to strengthen the Canadian federation by fostering a constructive relationship among the provinces and territories, and with the federal government.”
