Jeanne Beker, Sarah PolleyBlue Rodeo and Douglas Coupland were among the 90 new appointments to one of Canada’s highest honours, the Order of Canada.

The Order recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.

Jeanne Beker, (prounounced Genie) received the honour in recognition of her ground-breaking work bringing international and Canadian fashion to television screens beginning in the 1980’s.  A writer and broadcaster, she continues to be  a tireless supporter of the Canadian industry.

Blue Rodeo, the Canadian band much-loved at home and abroad, was honoured for their contribution to Canadian music and their support of various charitable causes.

Douglas Coupland, writer and visual artist has been active on many fronts. The author of ‘Generation X’, his most recent book is ‘Worst Person Ever’

And Sarah Polley, who television viewers around the world may remember from her work as a young girl on the Road to Avonlea, has matured into a talented filmmaker.  Julie Christie, who starred in Polley’s film ‘Away From Her’ was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance.

The ceremony, presenting their insignias and officially investing them into the Order of Canada will take place in 2014, during one of several investiture ceremonies held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
