Eating 200 grams of fruit a day—the equivalent of two small apples—can cut the risk of stroke by almost one third, according to a review of 20 studies.
Most Canadians eat one or two servings of fruit and vegetables in a day. The Canadian government’s official food guide suggests adults eat seven to ten servings per day.
The review published in the American Heart Association journal Stroke looked at 750,000 people, 17,000 of whom had stroke and found that eating just a bit more fruits and vegetables reduced the risk of having a stroke by 32 per cent. Fruit consumption had a stronger effect.
