Christine Elliot running to lead Ontario Progressive Conservative Party

Christine Elliot, the widow of Canada’s former finance minister, Jim Flaherty, and deputy leader of Ontario’s Progressive Conservative party, is now running to lead the party.

The party suffered a humbling defeat in last week’s provincial election.  Former leader, Tim Hudak, stepped down following the loss. Now Ms. Elliot is vowing to “build it from the ground up” if chosen leader.

Christine Elliot, a lawyer, has been the Member of the Provincial Parliament for the riding of Whitby-Oshawa, an industrial area just east of Toronto, since 2006.
