Stress awareness on June 30th

ListenStress is taking a greater toll on Canadians, particularly in urban centres where lengthy commutes, often in bumper to bumper traffic, waste the time, energy and productivity of many people.

The results are burn-out and rising rates of depression in Canadian families.  Sun Life Financial’s 2012 Canadian Health Index Report discovered that 72 per cent of respondents reported experiencing excessive or uncomfortable levels of stress.

Now as summer takes hold in the northern hemisphere, Beverly Beuermann-King, says it is time to take stock.  June 30th is her 4th annual SOS to Stress Day.  The day before the national Canada Day holiday is when Beuermann-King suggests people take the opportunity to “evaluate their priorities and coping tactics and ensure they have the ‘right’ strategies, for them, to handle whatever life has to offer.”

Coping tactics include taking the vacation despite not having the perfect plan. Instead of striving for work-life balance, Beuermann-King says Canadians should think in terms of work-life satisfaction.

Over the last 20 years, two areas of iife have changed most; one is the continuous connection to technology and the other is the unfortunate disconnection to family and friends, according to Beuermann-King.

Where are you taking your vacation?
