Union bringing together business, students, governments to discuss jobs, economy

Canada’s largest private sector union UNIFOR has called an ambitious three-day summit in Toronto to discuss jobs and the economy. The “Good Jobsl Summit” will include not only union representatives, but also students, business and government representatives, and researchers.

Concerned by the lack of permanent jobs being created, and by the growing number of part-time employment jobs in Canada, and the high unemployment levels among young people, UNIFOR hopes the summit will offer a series of recommendations.

The union is also preparing to actively campaign against the ruling Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to UNIFOR president Jerry Dias who says the biggest problem in Canada today is a “lack of vision”.
