Canada to help countries adapt to climate change

Canada will provide money to impoverished nations to help them cope with climate change and develop cleaner sources of energy.

At the end of the G20 summit, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Canada would soon contribute to the United Nations Green Climate Fund. But he did not say by how much.

Harper lauded a recent pledge by the United States and China to cut their greenhouse gas emissions, but did not say he would commit to bigger reductions in Canada. He said he has been calling for a binding international agreement that would oblige all major emitters to cut emissions first.
