Students from other countries who studied in Canada are learning that new immigration regulations make it harder for them to qualify for permanent residence status, reports the Globe and Mail newspaper.
International students graduating with a post-secondary degree from a Canadian institution used to have an advantage when applying to stay in Canada. On January 1, new rules eliminated that advantage and pooled them with other skilled workers applying for permanent residency.
“This is a radical move that is devastating to international students that relied on policies that were put into place by this government,” said lawyer Robin Seligman to the Globe.
