A summer's day on Canada's East Coast provides food for the sould. We see a long, pink beach with blue water to its right and a lighthouse and barn off in the distance. The sky is a deep blue.

Canada is now–officially–a summer place

Summer officially began Sunday, bringing with her lots of wonderful sunshine and the sense of peace we’ve been waiting for since, well, last summer.

For the next little while at least, Canadians will not be hunkering down, collars turned against the wind and snow.

Still, the Summer Solstice is just a touch bitter sweet.

Days are now–officially–getting shorter.

All of a sudden, Canadians are no longer moving away from the season that knocks us for a loop year after year. No, we are now moving inevitably back toward winter.

So this first official day of summer carries with it–despite our very best efforts–a teeny sense of foreboding (to be sublimated at all costs).

Rick Blue  and his show business partner, George Bowser, currently have a song on YouTube entitled “Snow is a Four Letter Word.” They are also in the midst of writing another called “Summer is a Place.”

So for some perspective on the advent of summer, I asked Blue to join us. Blue is a well-know Canadian musician, playwright, satirist.and all-round perceptive fellow. He joined RCI by phone from his home in suburban Montreal.
