Canadian to release first album recorded in space

Retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield will launch his first album on October 9th, 2015 calling it “Space Sessions: Songs from a Tin Can.”

Hadfield wowed earthlings with live transmissions of him singing while he was commander of the International Space Station in 2013. He also held live chats with students, and sent lots of pictures of earth.

Voice sounds different in space

While in space, Hadfield plugged a microphone into his iPad and recorded songs while in his sleep pod. Some of those recordings are being used to create the album. He told Canadian Press that it was hard to hold his guitar without gravity. And his voice sounded different because sinuses don’t drain in zero gravity.

Back on earth, he got help from an award-winning producer and some professional musicians to create the album. Among Hadfield’s musical influences are Canadian greats like Gordon Lightfoot, Leonard Cohen and Great Big Sea.
