Drogba MLS debut with The Impact on Saturday

Didier Drogba will be in his new uniform, with his old number 11, on Saturday, when the Montreal Impact take on the Philadelphia Union.

The marquee player’s Major League Soccer debut has been much anticipated. Trainer Frank Klopas confirmed the former Chelsea striker will be on the field.

”Drogba will play. For how long? We have to take it one day at a time,” Klopas told reporters.

Since Drogba’s arrival, to much fanfare three weeks ago, he’s been working on his conditioning and training with the team. Fans have been buying up tickets to the games and hailing the arrival of the soccer superstar.

“A superstar is just the way people look at you, but in the dressing room you’re the same,” Drogba said after arriving in Montreal.

Saputo Stadium is sold out for the event, but standing room may be available.

Known for wearing No. 11. before coming to Montreal, Impact midfielder Dilly Duka happily gave up the shirt for the team’s newest member from Ivory Coast.
