Continuing to suffer the ill-effects of a concussion suffered earlier this month at the U.S. Open, Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard has pulled out of a major tournament in Japan set to begin next week.
Ranked World No. 26, Bouchard suffered through a horrendous season before appearing to find her game in New York.
After spending a week training with former champion Jimmy Connors, she reached the fourth round in women’s singles.
But after a mixed doubles match on Sept. 4, she slipped and fell in the locker room, She withdrew from the women’s and mixed doubles competitions the next day and the singles the following day.
There was no immediate word on how long she might be out of action.
Bouchard reached ranking-high of No. 5 in October of last year when she reached the Wimbledon final, the semifinals of the Australian and French Opens and the fourth round of the US Open.
Her star fell dramatically in 2015, when she won just 12 of her 29 matches. She is currently without a coach after firing two in the past year.
