Major snowstorms bring out the best in people

The capital city of Ottawa got a huge dump of snow on Tuesday, even by Canadian standards. More than 50 cm fell making everything difficult. CBC posted examples of the many ways in which people helped each other and this is not unusual.

When a major storm happens, there is often a sense of “we’re all in this together” so people may do something like lend their snow blowers to clear a neighbour’s driveway. They may help you shovel your car out, or total strangers may push your car if you are stuck.

In Ottawa, people offered rides and excused each other for being late.

As a teenager, I remember getting together with friends and roaming around in bands to help drivers free their cars from the snow.  We thought it was fun and it certainly made us feel good.
