Thirsty and tired of waiting for your server?

Coin operated beer- pour it yourself

You’re out with friends in a busy pub and you want service but the staff seems overwhelmed and hasn’t come to you. Naturally you get a little frustrated waiting.

As a restaurant and bar owner, you don’t want frustrated customers.

Now a well-known restaurant/bar chain operation is introducing draught beer taps at your table.

The chain, with 40 outlets in Canada will be setting up coin operated taps at the tables so customers can simply drop in their coins and get a pour.

In addition, the draught will be poured in relation to the coins, such that if you only want one more mouthful you can just drop in a ten-cent piece, or a little more, a 25-cent piece or two, up to the full one pint price.

“Our millennial guests are accustomed to on-demand service,” says Todd Baril, National Beverage Director at Jack Astor’s. “When it comes to their restaurant experience, we’re listening to our guests and proactively meeting those needs.”

However,  the tap will not be turned on until a server has verified customers photo-ID to make sure they are not under-age.

The chain says the new idea of coin-operated self-serve at your table will save servers about an hour and a half per shift.

However, what they haven’t said is that it may reduce the chain’s need for staff.

  • Customers get impatient after about 3 minutes of waiting for service
  • The average guest carries an average of $4.80 in loose change
  • Bartenders save an average of 96 minutes per shift
