Newfoundland’s snow-day in April

Newfoundland is under a powerful spring snow-storm that has brought life to a standstill in many places. In St. John’s today, all schools are closed, including Memorial University, which may give some students more time to prepare for the scheduled exams.

Meterologists are describing it as one of the worst this winter season with snowfall accumulation expected to top 35 cm in some inland areas.

Northerly winds as high as 106 kilometres an hour are causing problems at St. John’s airport with several flights cancelled. And courts, and most other government services have been halted for the day.
