Giant potato invited to wedding

Potatoes are important to the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.), but this is the first I have heard of anyone inviting one to their wedding. Actually, the couple in question asked the potato industry mascot, Tate the Tater, to attend their reception to amuse the guests on August 27th, reports CBC.

‘A great idea’

“I work on a potato farm … so I thought it would just be fitting if Tate made an appearance,” said the groom, Matthew Ramsay to CBC news. His bride, Amy Ramsay, apparently agreed.

“It would take the lull out of the reception when people are trying to eat and there wasn’t any speeches going on, she thought it’d be a great idea.”

Tate a hit

Apparently Tate was a big hit with adults and children and several took pictures with the mascot. The marriage took place at the Elite Seed Potato Farm owned by the P.E.I. Potato Board.

Potatoes are the dominant cash crop in the island province worth over a billion dollars per year. Besides growing table potatoes and potatoes for processing into French fries and other products, P.E.I., grows seed potatoes which are shipped to over 20 countries.
