French-speakers are one of the founding peoples of North America and certainly in Canada.
However, the impact of Francophones has often been overlooked. Indeed even amongst Francophones in the mostly French-speaking province of Quebec, there is a general presumption that there weren’t many successful or important French-Canadians.
A new book seeks to change that attitude. A short list of some 13 French-Canadians who have greatly influenced society was compiled, and then thirteen people chosen to write about them who had a special affinity for their particular subject.
Andre Pratte was the editor-in-chief of one of the most influential French-language daily newspapers in the province of Quebec, La Presse, and was recently appointed to the Senate of Canada.
He is a co-editor of a new book about Francophones who had a major affect on life in North America.
