Denis Shapovalov advanced to the fourth round of the U.S. Open today when British opponent Kyle Edmund retired with a neck injury in the fourth set.

Shapovalov is the Canadian teenager who powered into the spotlight, making history at the Rogers Cup tournament in Montreal, when he beat Rafael Nadal, on August 10th, 2017
The 18-year old has been compared to a blend of Federer and Nadal.
A left-hander from Richmond Hill, Ontario, just north of Toronto, he was leading 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 1-0 before Edmund abandoned the match.
Shapovalov is the youngest man to get to the fourth round since Michael Chang was 17 in 1989.
He will play Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta, the No. 12 seed, next.
Denis Shapovalov’s mother, Tessa Shapovalov was a pro tennis player, for the former Soviet Union.
She has a tennis school, Tessa Tennis, in Vaughan, Ontario. She began to teach Denis at the age of 5.
