Conflicting interpretations of the spring report of Canada’s Auditor General dominated the Question Period in the House of Commons on Wednesday (May 1).
The ruling Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper was repeatedly questioned about its handling of government expenses.
On Tuesday, Auditor General Michael Ferguson released his 2013 spring report.
It listed numerous concerns including a lack of government-wide monitoring and reporting on public security spending, the challenges facing Canada’s federal search and rescue resources, and a need for the Canada Revenue Agency to do better follow-up with cases, particularly ones dealing with debtors owing more than $1 million dollars. On Wednesday, the conflicting interpretations by the government and opposition parties were exchanged during Question Period.
