Sixteen reptiles, including six crocodiles and four alligators were removed from an exotic pet store in Campbellton, New Brunswick on Friday.
Four days ago, four-year-old Noah Barthe and his six-year-old brother Connor were killed by an African rock python in an apartment upstairs from the store, Reptile Ocean.
Police say the snake escaped a glass tank inside the apartment, slithered through a ventilation system and fell through a ceiling into the living room where the boys slept.
Preliminary results of autopsies show that the boys, who were on a sleepover, were asphyxiated by the python.
The building has been cordoned off with police tape since the boys were found dead Monday morning.
Officials had obtained a warrant to search the store and said if any illegal animals were found, they would be seized and relocated to accredited zoos.
Zoos in Ontario and New Brunswick have agreed to accept the animals.
There is a thriving exotic animal trade in Canada and very little regulation. Unlike Britain, Canada has no country-wide rules about private trade and possession of exotic animals. Some provinces have rules, others have passed on the issue to municipalities which are often ill-equipped to deal with it.
Questions linger about how the large snake came to be in the possession of a pet store.
Funeral services will be held Saturday for the boys.
