Canada’s Green Party Leader part of Afghanistan delegation at UN climate conference

Listen

Canada’s Green Party Leader and opposition Member of Parliament Elizabeth May is shocked that the ruling Conservative Government of Canada was not allowing her to attend a United Nations climate conference in Poland as part of the Canadian delegation.

She arrived as part of the world green movement, and is now officially part of the small delegation of Afghanistan. In this way she has access to all levels of the conference, as she would have had as part of the Canadian delegation.

This, and what she calls Canada’s poor climate record under the ruling Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, has disappointed her immensely. But she is convinced the vast majority of Canadians care about climate issues much more than the Prime Minister.

RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to Green Party Leader Elizabeth May by phone from the 19th Conference of the Parties under the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP19)  in Warsaw, Poland.
