Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony at Montreal Botanical Garden

Montreal’s Botanical Garden includes a Japanese Garden and every year on this day, it is the scene of the Memorial Peace Ceremony.

At 7:15 pm this evening, coinciding with time the atomic bomb was dropped, and the current ceremony at Hiroshima, the Peace Bell will ring, signalling a moment of contemplation on the sad and tragic event that took place 69 years ago.

Montreal Mayor, Denis Coderre, is on a mission to Japan and, at the invitation of his counterpart, Mr. Kazumi Matsui, is attending the Hiroshima ceremony.

The Peace Bell was given to Montreal, one of only 5 in the world given by Hiroshima, as part of a twinning arrangement between the two cities, in 1998.

Tomorrow, the Peace Bell will ring out 69 times through the day.
