Adolescents who have major depression or bipolar disorder face a greater risk of heart disease and of getting it earlier, according to a scientific statement from the American Heart Association.
Canadian Dr. Benjamin Goldstein from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, chaired the committee that made the statement. It is estimated that 10 to 20 per cent of Canadian youth is affected by a mental illness or disorder. Lynn Desjardins spoke with Dr. Goldstein to find out more.
The purer the dog breed, the sicker the animal

Canadians love their dogs! We have almost six million, and over a third of Canadian households have one or more dogs as a pet. But some of these animals are living shorter lives, with a great deal of suffering
Inbreeding is the problem, as Terry Haig discovered. Too many people want dogs not just as pets, but as trophies and status symbols. Michael Brandow has worked many years as a dog walker and a dog sitter. He is the author of “A Matter of Breeding: A Biting History of Pedigree Dogs and How the Quest for Status Has Harmed Man’s Best Friend”.
‘Nigger’ Rock or Rapids, do not belong in Quebec geography

Tthe province of Quebec has 11 locations and sights, known by the words ‘Nigger’, or ‘Negre’ in French. While the French word can translate into both the word nigger and negro, many Quebecers find the use of the word, offensive.
Rachel Zellars is a PhD candidate in education at McGill University. She is a black woman who grew up in Ithica,New York. Montreal is home now, and she is out to change these names. She created a petition that currently has 1900 signatures and comments, supporting her demand that the names be changed, and some of these locations, be designated historical sights. Carmel Kilkenny spoke to her to hear what the response has been so far.
