The MV Leviathan II capsized on Sunday. We see the white prow of the boat facing up toward the blue sky at about an 70 per cent angle. It is submerged to its wheelhouse and surrounded by dark purple water.

Five die as boat capsizes off British Columbia

Five British nationals are dead and one person is missing after the whale watching boat they were on sank Sunday off the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Twenty-four passengers and three crewmembers were aboard the 20-metre Leviathan II when it capsized near the community of Tofino.

Officials from the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria say 21 survivors were pulled from the water.

Eighteen were treated at a local hospital. Three others were transferred to other Island hospitals in stable condition.

The search for the missing person is continuing.

Joe Martin, a member of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, who watched the five bodies being brought to shore, says weather conditions were clear and sunny but the area where the vessel went down can get rough at times.
