The shopping my be exhausting but paying the piper is getting easier and easier. We see customers in a big box store standing in line with their purchases in the blue shopping carts. That's one line. Next to them are people with enormous packages wrapped in their arms.

More and more Canadians using credit cards

Boxing Day looms, the rush to purchase all the presents bound for the bottom of the Christmas Tree is done, and a new survey shows that more and more Canadians are paying with plastic.

A poll by global processing payment firm Moneris found that 77 per cent of respondents would rather use debit or credit cards than cash.

Loyality programs, tap-and-go technology and mobile apps are making the shopping process easier, and 65 per cent of respondents to the poll said said they rarely buy anything with cash anymore.

But using only credit cards may come with, ahem, a cost.

Jeff Schwartz, executive director of Consolidated Credit Counselling Services of Canada, says seeing cash dwindle in your wallet is a simple and direct way to know what you’re spending, which let’s face it, is always pretty good to know.
