Privacy watchdog monitors electronic health devices

Canada’s privacy commissioner has joined a network of privacy watchdogs in other countries to monitor the collection of personal information by electronic devices. Canada will focus its efforts on various health devices such as fitness trackers, smart scales, and sleep monitors.

The so-called privacy sweep takes place from April 11th  to 15th, 2016 and is designed to raise public and business awareness of privacy rights and responsibilities. It also aims to encourage entities to comply with privacy laws and to identify concerns.

In Canada, the privacy commissioner is an Officer of Parliament who reports directly to the House of Commons and the Senate.
