After an unusually warm November, today sees the first real snowfall Montreal has seen this winter, and the fun (so-to-speak) has just begun.
It caught a number of motorists off guard on the relatively steep Beaver Hall Street in the downtown. Conditions somehow were just right that the snow became compacted on the downhill lane.

And one after the other cars and buses and even a police car became agonizingly, inevitably, involved in the slow motion crash.
To add insult to the situation, a public works truck that came (too late) spread an abrasive sand and salt mix on the ice….but…behind it and itself slid slowly and helplessly down as the police still inside their own car watched the plough heading for them with the inevitable hard stop.

The whole thing was captured on video by Willem Shepperd who posted it on Facebook.. Welcome to winter! Auto body repair shops will be busy!
