Welcome to winter in Montreal…Oh Noooooo!!!

After an unusually warm November, today sees the first real snowfall Montreal has seen this winter, and the fun (so-to-speak) has just begun.

It caught a number of motorists off guard on the relatively steep Beaver Hall Street in the downtown.  Conditions somehow were just right that the snow became compacted on the downhill lane.

A police car comes to investigate the situation but unfortunately makes the mistake of going down the same hill..and oh so slowly but inevitably becomes part of the accident

And one after the other cars and buses and even a police car became agonizingly, inevitably, involved in the slow motion  crash.

To add insult to the situation, a public works truck that came (too late) spread an abrasive sand and salt mix on the ice….but…behind it and itself slid slowly and helplessly down as the police still inside their own car watched the plough heading for them with the inevitable hard stop.

A public works sanding truck comes to the rescue..except..oh-oh, it’s now sliding too. (if only any of them had thought to get off the brakes and turn into the other lane where there was traction to stop.)

The whole thing was captured on video by Willem Shepperd who posted it on Facebook.. Welcome to winter!  Auto body repair shops will be busy!
