The speed, the skill, the whirr of engines…Whirr?
World renowned for it exciting Formula 1 races, Montreal will be the site of a new type of racing, Formula-E, for electric.
Car racing fans who know the sound of a screaming race engine and the sound of drivings shifting gears up and down, are in integral part of the experience, may be a little let down by E-racing which tends to sound more like that of the old slot-car toys.
An E-racer however is no slouch reaching speeds over 200 kilometres per hour but while that is not extremely fast, considering F-1 cars can reach 375 km/h the actual acceleration is fairly close.
Where the excitement comes in with E-racing for Montreal is that it will be run on city streets downtown.

With relatively short straightaways, and tight corners, the lack of top speed will not be a major disappointment, and the crowds will be close to the action.

The city of Montreal has just awarded two contracts worth over $16 million to prepare for the two days of racing in July 2017. This involves creating the necessary safety barriers around the proposed track, and the other for their installation pre-race, and removal post-race.
Many have often commented about the dismal state of Montreal city roads, and another contract for $4.6 million was let for road repair on the downtown streets where the race is to be run.
The Montreal race will be the final event in the 2017 E-race season with 20 drivers on some 10 teams, including big names like Jaguar and Renault.
