Canada’s Official Opposition NDP party marked Earth Day (April 22) with private member bills to protect a number of “heritage” lakes and rivers.
The bills presented by NDP Members of Parliament in the House of Commons are part of a larger campaign to make Canadians aware that almost all lakes and rivers lost environmental protection last year because of a Conservative government omnibus bill which changed the Navigable Waters Protection Act.
RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to Megan Leslie, the NDP’s Environment Critic, about the bills, and the campaign.
