The citizen group Canadians for Tax Fairness has calculated that Canadian money in the top 12 global tax havens has now hit $170 billion.
Three havens account for $109 billion of the Canadian money. Barbados leads with $59 billion, then the Cayman Islands with $30 billion, and Luxembourg follows with $20 billion.
The group used data released last week by the government agency Statistics Canada and suggests other countries are “going after these tax cheats much more aggressively, than the Canadian government is.”
RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to Dennis Howlett, the Executive Director of Canadians for Tax Fairness.
