The government of New Brunswick is continuing its efforts to increase the number of doctors in the Maritime province, where thousands are without a family physician.
It announced Wednesday that it will hire a recruitment co-ordinator immediately, one of the recommendations of a working committee created in April to review and recommend improvements to the province’s recruitment system.
The committee also recommended more co-ordination between the provincial Health Department, health authorities and the provincial medical society.
The Department of Health says it also plans to work closely with the New Brunswick Medical Society to develop detailed plans, budgets and timelines for implementing the committee’s recommendations
New Brunswick is losing many doctors to retirement, and Health Minister Victor Boudreau says it’s crucial that recruitment strategies be improved in order to meet current and future health care needs.
