Montreal, Toronto ranked good cities for students

Montreal is the best city in Canada for students and seventh best in the world, according to a ranking by the website QS. Toronto is the next Canadian city ranking 13th in the world. Vancouver is 14th.

Montreal has ‘distinctly hybrid culture’

Besides being home to McGill University and several other of what QS says are Canada’s highest ranking institutions, Montreal is said to have a “distinctly hybrid culture” because of its mass immigration from all over the world. QS also notes its world-renowned indie music scene and several festivals it holds like the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the comedy Just for Laughs festival.

QS gave Montreal its strongest score in its “student mix” category because of its large and diverse student population. Its weakest point was affordability, although it beat out many of the other top 10 cities on this point.

The Economist likes them too

For students, the top cities in the world were Paris, Melbourne, Tokyo, Sydney, London, Singapore, Montreal, Hong Kong, Berlin, Seoul, in that order.

In January 2015, the magazine The Economist named Toronto and Montreal the world’s best cities in which to live.
