Trudeaus debut in Washington D. C.

The Trudeau family, Prime MInister Justin Trudeau, wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, and their three children were welcomed in fine style in the U.S. captial today.

The Prime Minister was in the Rose Garden at the White House in Washington, D. C. for a joint news conference that included a few good natured barbs about hockey.

President Obama was quite happy to remind viewers that Canada’s revered Stanley Cup, the prize of the National Hockey League, was taken home last year by his home-town team, the Chicago Blackhawks.

The two leaders are said to have addressed some of the major issues between the two countries including the latest dispute over the softwood lumber trade.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama and Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau addressed a gathering at the Institute of Peace, in support of the group Let Girls Learn, a U.S. agency advocating education for adolescent girls around the world.

We’ll have more on the outcome of the meetings and what the may mean for future Canada – U.S. relations, as well as highlights from the state dinner taking place this evening.
