Over 40,600 acres of forest protected

Various groups and public agencies celebrated National Forest Week from September 18 to 24 to raise awareness about Canada’s forest heritage and its value. The Nature Conservancy of Canada used the occasion to announce 25 projects to acquire and protect different kinds of forests across the country. This it did with the help of the TD Bank Group which contributed five million dollars to the projects called “For the Love of Trees.”

“This is a good opportunity to highlight the importance of preserving forests because they…act in so many different ways to help clean air and help purify water,” says Andrew Holland, spokesman for the Nature Conservancy of Canada. “There’s a lot of benefits to our forests.

“In addition to that, we preserve these lands so that Canadians and visitors to our country can enjoy them.” The forests are also home to many threatened and endangered species.
