On this week’s news round-up, we bring you some of your most read stories on Eye on the Arctic this week:
- Canada’s environment commissioner Julie Gelfand slammed Canada this week (story in French) for its lack of preparedness when it comes to marine safety and traffic in the Arctic
- Danish toy-maker Lego cuts ties with Shell after Greenpeace campaign. Greenpeace has long campaigned against Shell’s drilling activities in the Arctic, concerned with how a potential oil spill could impact nature and wildlife in the area. Lego’s partnership with Shell involved Shell-branded toy kits along with promotional items at gas stations.
- And out of Norway, the Walrus population in the island of Svalbard in the Norwegian Arctic appears to be on the upswing.
